Live at Fazz’s Birthday at Stanley’s (March 2023)

The big dog, Andrew Fazzolari, blew out an undisclosed number of candles in March and decided to celebrate the occasion with a good ol’ fashioned Saturday shindig at Stanley’s.

The Fazz curated a hand-picked line-up of selectors for the special occasion and generously gifted me the first two hours of the balmy Autumn evening!

I entered the venue at the tail-end of, shall we say, a “colourful” daytime takeover that was many hours—and countless beverages—deep, and was greeted by an intriguing soundtrack of popular radio-played bangers from the start of the century; ‘Ms. Jackson’ and ‘Teenage Dirtbag’, notably.

At its conclusion, we were afforded a few sought-after moments of serenity while the Technics were rolled out and added to the booth. I was afforded the opportunity to allow the dust—and, indeed, serotonin!—to settle, and re-set things with some lower, slower groovers, just as intended.

I prepared a bespoke “crate” of selections filled with some of the birthday boy’s personal favourites and guilty pleasures, along with others I thought he might enjoy. I believe I hit the brief and was pretty pleased with the result. Most importantly, The Fazz seemed to enjoy himself right through ’till the call for last drinks.

In any case, I hope you enjoy it, too.

Live at Cafe del Mar (22nd February, 2020)

Alright, well, as promised… more content incoming!

For greater historical context; I’ll include the original copy below—it probably paints a clearer picture of my thoughts/feelings at the time, amidst the unbelievable period in which we currently find ourselves!

TL;DR: I played this set in February (pre-lockdown) and posted it around a month later (during lockdown)—and hey, even if you don’t read the passage in its entirety; well, I hope you enjoy the set all the same! 😉

A lot can change in a month…

While I recorded and delivered this particular set at Café del Mar in Sydney almost exactly a month ago; it feels considerably longer than that. Since this short space of time, there is a collective feeling—to me a least—that we’ve lost a lot our innocence… on both, a local and global level.

At the time, I can recall considering the current COVID-19/coronavirus situation as nothing more than an afterthought, a conversational filler, a punchline. There were no suggestions of any lockdown, no cancelled events, no indefinite business closures. There was a palpable buzz in the air and people were out on the town enjoying a balmy, late-Summer evening.

A lot can change in a month…

While I, and many of my esteemed colleagues, have taken to the Facebook Live airwaves to deliver a positive message of music during the last week or so; I also hope that this particular offering may serve a similar purpose: an accompanying side-dish to your respective isolated, remote working or otherwise uncertain endeavours, perhaps.

This isn’t a typical set that you might hear me play in a club nor even as part of our Attic project. For that reason, I originally intended to keep this as a private offering only. All things considered, it feels right to share it out.

It’s an uplifting, disco-centric offering—full of big vocals and positive melodies. I had an enjoyable time throwing it together, and I hope it translates as such.

I hope you enjoy it during these uncertain times and hope you’re otherwise staying positive and healthy.

Much love!

Live at Attic presents Laurence Guy Mix (10th March, 2018)

So, as the dust has settled on our recent Attic event headlined by Laurence Guy—our fourth instalment—I have just made available my recorded set from the evening.

I opened up shop for the first hour on this occasion, so, accordingly; this is very much a lower, slower effort—105 BPM upwards—though, in doing so, I did my best to retain a lot of the melodic elements that make up our “Attic sound”.

I really enjoyed putting this one together and kicking off the night in a method that I saw fit—and what an evening it turned out to be!

I hope you enjoy this one, all the same.

Comments and feedback—and if you really enjoy it, bookings—are always welcome! 😉

’till next time!

x

Live at Original Vibe Mix (20th October, 2017) with Andrew Fazzolari

So, Andrew Fazzolari and I took the ‘Attic‘ train to Manly late last year to spread the deeper disco vibes at Havana Beach Club for the ‘Original Vibe‘ brand.

We arrived, loaded with plenty of new weapons we were itching to play: new cuts from Folamour‘s album—no surprises there obviously!—as well as Ari Bald, Cody Currie, Ethyène and Black Loops.

Despite the unseasonal rainy weather, there was a healthy turnout, who warmly danced the night away and rocked out to our tunes. Of course, we were also joined by an excellent all-star cast from Sydney’s house and disco DJ community, too, with Mr. Ben Korbel on headline duties, the Original Vibe Man himself, Jordan Waller and the highly-accomplished DJ/producer trio, Dulcet!

Many thanks to Jordan and the Original Vibe Team. We had a highly enjoyable evening!

Hope you enjoy this mix! 😉

Live at Apollo Arcade Mix, Vinyl Only (11th March, 2017)

Here is my set from Apollo Arcade at Secret Garden Bar in Enmore, from a few weeks back. This was an incredibly enjoyable set, and a wonderful opportunity to play a complete, two-hour, vinyl only set!

I’ve just managed to compile the tracklisting for this one — which you’ll appreciate takes a little longer for such a set! — and, for what it’s worth, I generally try and buy vinyl-only releases, too, so there might be some gems in here that might not otherwise be available.

Big love and many thanks to Matty Connor for the booking, the beers and the chats!

Hope you enjoy this one!

Live at Attic Launch Night featuring Fouk!

Well, what a truly magical night that was! We’re truly pleased to have brought you our first — of hopefully, many — Attic events and will reflect on this one with big smiles for a long, long time!

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us — there were positive vibes right throughout the place from start-to-finish, and everyone in attendance was incredibly complimentary.

To see a project we’ve envisioned and carefully-crafted over some time — whilst throwing our blood and sweat into it in the process! — turn into something so wonderful leaves us with an enormous sense of satisfaction.

Fittingly, everyone brought their ‘A’ game musically:

To the Rabbit : mate, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. You’re a true gentleman of the scene. The opening set of any given night can present a tricky scenario and is absolutely critical, but you nailed it — even from the first sample, “No, I’m just some kind of sick idiot who’s seen too many young men die…” Just superb!

To Hans and Daniel (Fouk): Well, what can we say?! Everyone who witnessed the almost three-hour journey can attest that they were present for something very, very special, indeed.

As well as being talented producers, it’s refreshing to know that you’re seasoned and highly-accomplished technicians behind the 1’s and 2’s. You took our guests on a melodic journey and they remained with you for the long haul and danced the night away.

A special thanks also to Doris, Maria and Mike for your contributions and assistance throughout the night. This is very much a family affair, and we couldn’t have done it without you. A special mention to Andreas, too!

We’ll also have some photos, video and music from the night coming very shortly, too, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

So, with that, here is my recorded set from the evening. I played after Rabbit Taxi and right before Fouk. The crowd response was exceptional, and seeing it all build up in anticipation four our headline act was highly satisfying!

We’ll be back at it again very soon, so stay tuned for further announcements and dates! 😉

Thanks again, everyone. It’s been our absolute pleasure.

Live at S*A*S*H Mix (4th December, 2016)

Here is the recording from my recent set at S*A*S*H, closing The Den in the early hours of Monday morning!

Massive shouts to the super-receptive crowd who danced right throughout — many of whom very likely kicking on from the ‘Tell No Tales’ festival from earlier in the day!

I was able to play a wide range of tunes that are currently floating my boat: from my current Attic-style cuts, some disco-infused house, concluding on more of a drum-driven tip.

With that, special thanks must be paid to the S*A*S*H crew — particular Cris — for the booking consideration (and indeed, trust), once again. And certainly not to forget George (Mesan) who played an outstanding, warm set to open up the room and attract a “proper Den crowd”.

Really hope you like this one! Until next time…
